When homicide detective Jessica Niemi is ordered to take leave from work after her involvement in a street brawl, she retreats to a remote island in the Åland archipelago to rest.

Three visitors arrive - former refugees who fled Finland as children during the Second World War and stayed at the local orphanage - and Jessica's peace is soon shattered when one of them is found dead.

The refugees are convinced the death is related to the local legend of a girl who disappeared one night and was never seen again. Jessica can't resist investigating herself and soon uncovers shocking revelations about the orphanage's past.

As a fierce storm hits the island, Jessica is unsure what is real and what is not. Can she not only find a killer, but finally silence her own ghosts once and for all?
